City of Mount Pearl Trails Wayfinding

Helping people enjoy one of the province’s best urban trail networks.

Recognizing its potential of its extensive and diverse trail network, the City of Mount Pearl engaged Mills & Wright to devise a comprehensive study in 2019—one of the recommendations of which was to develop a top-notch way finding system. We worked closely with both parties, along with Leaman Signs, to create a design system that truly helps people navigate the trails. With a special emphasis on accessibility, we’re proud to see the incredible response the signage has received from trail users.

The wayfinding system was designed with a simple premise in mind: the trails are for everyone. Consultations with InclusionNL led to specific design decisions to enhance legibility and easy understanding of trail surfaces. We colour-coded trails, and created custom-scaled maps at each info kiosk, to give people quick knowledge of their surroundings.
